The Arkansas-Monticello softball team came into the 2022 Great American Conference tournament eager to keep their season alive as they took on #1 seed Arkansas Tech. Unfortunately, the Blossoms fell in Saturday afternoon’s match-up, 6-0, closing out their tournament run, as well as their 2022 season.
The Golden Suns were the first team to get a run on the board, scoring their first run of the ball game on a home run in the first inning.
Arkansas Tech found a rally in the third inning to give themselves five more runs, increasing their lead to 6-0 over UAM.
Through best efforts, the ladies of Monticello were unable to claw their way back throughout the remainder of the ball game, with the score eventually ending at 6-0 after seven.
Sam Stephens started in the circle for the blossoms, going 2.1 total innings with 3 runs earned on 4 hits. She struck out a batter in her outing.
Maddie Chalenburg took over in the third inning, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits against the two batters she faced.
Jamie Franks, a senior pitcher for the Blossoms, tossed 0.1 innings. She allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits.
Maquire Estill closed out the remaining 3.1 innings of the ballgame, throwing a completely scoreless outing with only 1 hit allowed.
The loss on the day finishes out the Blossoms 2022 season; finishing with a final record of 17-33.
