City Of Monticello Arkansas Issues Statement About City & Private Dumpsters

MindfulMonday

Below is a picture of a dumpster in Monticello from the day after Christmas. There have been many instances where the dumpsters are blocked or even overfilled with mattresses, building materials and furniture. It’s understandable that during the holidays there is an excess in trash but dumping trash in or around a business’s dumpster is unacceptable. Businesses pay to have their trash dumped and just like residential customers, only have their dumpsters emptied on certain days. If their dumpsters are filled with garbage that isn’t theirs, it makes them unable to use their own dumpster. Imagine how you would feel if others filled your trashcan with trash that isn’t yours, making you unable to throw your trash away.

If you can dump mattresses and furniture in a business’s dumpster, it’s highly probable that you could have taken it to the transfer station and dumped it for free. They’re open Monday through Friday and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. They only charge a fee for tires. They will not accept large appliances that contain freon unless it has been tagged by a licensed technician stating that the freon has been removed. The Drew County Landfill will take them untagged for a small fee and is located across the road from the Monticello Transfer Station.

If you’re in need of an extra trashcan, there is a one-time charge of $70 that will be added to your next water bill and will be delivered to you as soon as possible. Call the Water Office at 870-367-4400 if you would like to order one.

We can all continue to make the City of Monticello a beautiful place to live if we all work together to keep it that way.
