The following is a letter received from a citizen of Dallas County along with the attached photo.
We truly appreciate when a citizen takes the time to acknowledge our work. It reminds us why we do what we do in the face of constant turbulence. Thank you Dallas County for allowing us to continue serving you!;
“Special Thanks to the Unsung heroes at the Dallas County, AR Sheriff’s Department
Usually law enforcement officers are praised for saving lives, apprehending violent suspects, rescuing animals, or similar notable acts. Very rarely are they publically praised for the personal time they put into a case to recover stolen property and return it to the rightful owner. Well, today, we would like to change that and recognize the Dallas County Sherriff Department for the outstanding handling and apprehension of the suspects who burglarized the Weathers home and stole valuable personal property.
On Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the late afternoon, Mr. Grathel Weathers’ son, Andre Brewer, approached Deputy Ronnie Smith, who was off duty at the time, to report he had additional information on the suspect who had burglarized Mr. Weathers’ home. Deputy Smith, who was in plain clothes at the time agreed to contact Andre after he was on duty, which was within the hour. Deputy Smith, true to his word, came to the home surveyed the area, took the report of the stolen property, and said, “I will take care of it and get the people who did this.” Within two hours of taking the police report, Deputy Smith called to say he had suspects in custody and some of the missing property. Honestly, we were shocked! Two days later, the Sherriff’s Department, with the assistance of the Fordyce Police Department had recovered the bulk of the stolen property and arrested multiple suspects.
Had it not been for Deputy’s Smith’s quick action, dedicated public service and his willingness to listen while off duty, we would not have recovered the stolen property. We are honored to have a Sherriff’s Department that cares about the citizens of Fordyce. And for that, the Weathers Family thanks you!”
