Sheriff’s Weekly Report:
March 27th-April 2nd
On 3/29/2023 Chief Deputy Jonathan Byrd took a report from a resident from Dickson Lane, who made an internet sale of a motor vehicle to a subject allegedly from Chicago Illinois. After receiving the $8500.00 cashiers check, it was deposited into a local bank, and the funds were used to purchase another vehicle. A short time later the bank contacted the victim and advised them that the cashiers check was not valid, and their back account was in $7900 in the negative. While this case is under current investigation, scams like this from a hidden source on the internet will prove to be very difficult to solve. We encourage all residents to be very cautious and guarded, when either purchasing, or selling items on internet platforms.
