Weevils Roll to the Semis

The UAM men’s basketball team is on to the semifinals of the GAC Championship tournament after rolling past Southeastern 94-63 Wednesday. The Weevils will face Henderson State Friday at Steelman Field House in the semifinals.

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team advances to the semifinals of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament after rolling past Southeastern Oklahoma State Wednesday. The Weevils shot the lights at Steelman Field House knocking down 13 three-pointers en route to the 94-63 win.

UAM (14-4, 12-4 GAC) advances to the semifinals of the GAC tournament for the first time since 2018 when the Weevils finished as the runner-up.

The Weevils fell behind to start the contest but quickly turned the tide with a 16-0 run to take an 18-7 lead midway through the first half. Once UAM went out in front it never looked back taking a 14-point advantage into the locker room at 40-26.

UAM shined on both ends of the floor in the first half. The offense shot 41.7 percent from the field including 40 percent from beyond the arc. Miles Daniels led the attack draining 4-of-6 from downtown for 12 points at the break.

Defensively, the Weevils held Southeastern (8-11, 7-10 GAC) to just 2-of-10 on three-pointers and out rebounded the Savage Storm 25-11 in the first half.

The second half proved to be more of the same for UAM as it maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the half. The shooting stroke for the Weevils continued to stay hot knocking down 58.3 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from deep.

Daniels continued to light it up from downtown knocking down another five three-pointers for 15 second half points. Denzel McDuffey also began to heat up after halftime pouring in 11 points in the final 20 minutes.

UAM posted its highest score of the season to roll past Southeastern 94-63.

Five Weevils finished in double-digits with Daniels leading the way tallying 27 points on nine three-pointers.

McDuffey followed registering his fifth double-double of the season scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Max Warren, Lemmie Howard and Kendal Frey rounded out the double-digits scorers for UAM.

DaJuan Jones posted his fourth game of the year with double-digit assists finishing with 10 in the contest.

The Weevils will host Henderson State in the semifinals of the GAC Tournament Friday at Steelman Field House. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
