Blossoms’ Season Comes to a Close in GAC Tournament

The UAM women’s basketball team’s 2021 season ends after falling in the first round of the GAC Tournament at Harding. The Blossoms went back-and-forth with the Bisons early, but, ultimately, could not keep pace dropping the contest 90-61.


SEARCY, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team saw its 2021 season come to a close Monday after falling 90-61 to Harding in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament. The Blossoms went back-and-forth with the Bisonsearly, ultimately, could not keep pace dropping the contest 90-61.

UAM (1-7, 1-6 GAC) traded blows with Harding (7-7, 6-7 GAC) in the first quarter as the two teams exchanged the lead six times. The Blossoms largest lead of the quarter came early as they held a 7-4 advantage with 6:22 to play. Mackenzie Tillman scored the final three points of the quarter from the charity stripe to leave the score knotted at 17.

The second quarter was a different story for the Blossoms as the Bisons bench brought a spark UAM struggled to contain. Meanwhile, on the offensive end the Blossom went cold while being outscored 26-11 and go into the half down43-28.

In the second half Harding took advantage of its height advantage on the Blossom attacking the paint.

UAM did not go down without a fight putting together its best scoring quarter of the contest in the fourth putting up 20 points including 13 off Harding turnovers. Despite the strong effort in the final quarter, the Blossoms fell 90-61.

Tillman paced UAM in scoring tallying 16 points while going 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Jaida Muhammad and Nina Kizzee followed in the scoring department with 10 and nine points, respectively.

Dezirae King picked up three steals defensively to go along with eight points.

The Blossoms end their season with a 1-7 overall record.
