Weevils, Daniels Down Harding
SEARCY, Ark. – A career night from senior transfer Miles Daniels lead the University of Arkansas men’s basketball team to the comeback victory over Harding Thursday night. The Gulfport, Mississippi native caught fire in the second half scoring 19 points while draining four three-pointers to carry the Weevils to the 77-66 win.
UAM erupted in the second half after shooting just 29 percent in the opening 20 minutes. The Weevils trailed at the break 32-25, but flipped the script when they came back on the floor.
The two teams exchanged baskets early in the second half until UAM knotted things up with 12:50 to play. The Weevils quickly took their first lead since 8-5 with 14:51 to play in the first half when Daniels began to heat up knocking down his first triple of the second half and put UAM up 47-44.
Harding would respond quickly hitting a three-pointer on the other end with 12:11 to go, but the Weevils had an answer of their own. UAM hit its next five threes on a 17-0 run to take a commanding 64-47 lead with 8:13 to play.
UAM got a little loose with the rock down the stretch allowing the Bisons to go on a 14-2 run until Daniels stopped the bleeding with a baseline jumper to hold the lead at 10. The Weevils were able to ice the contest by causing a pair of Harding turnovers in the final minute to secure the 77-66 victory.
Daniels led all scorers on the night with 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 6-of-9 from downtown.
Denzel McDuffey tallied his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
DaJuan Jones also ended in double digits with 18 points in the contest.
The Weevils converted 19 Harding turnovers into 31 points, including outscoring the Bisons11-3 in fast break points.
