FIVE WEEVILS GO YARD IN GAME 1 OF ECU SERIES

The imaginary basketball arena is modelled and rendered.

The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team took down East Central in Game 1 of their three game, GAC series. The Weevils put on a show at the plate, with five different Weevils going yard throughout the game. UAM outscored the Tigers 8-3 to win the match.

UAM started the game off hot, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Chase Cripps started the inning off with a walk, followed by a two-run home run from Cade Thompson to give the Weevils a quick 2-0 lead over the Tigers. grant Shepherd added another run to the scoreboard later in the inning as he hit a solo shot over the deck in left field.

The Weevils wouldn’t put up another run until the fourth inning, when DeShaun Cordova crushed a ball over the center field wall for his first career home run as a Boll Weevil.

UAM put up a handful of runs in the seventh inning when Reece Reading sent a ball way over the scoreboard in right center field for a three-run blast. Both Jordan Johnson and Chase Cripps would score with Reading.

The final Monticello run came in the eighth inning when Nick Fakouri went yard with a solo home run over the left field wall.

The Tigers were only able to put up three runs of their own throughout the entire game, as the match would come to a close after the top of the ninth.

Arkansas-Monticello would win game 1, defeating East Central, 8-3.

Pitching Performances
The UAM pitching staff threw a combined gem on the day.

Derek Potts started on the mound, totaling 7.0 innings pitched with three runs allowed on seven hits. He stuck out five batters and had four walks.
Rigell Robinson closes out the last 2.0 innings of the game for the Weevils, striking out two with no runs allowed and two hits.

Offensive Showcase
Reece Reading – Went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
Cade Thompson – Went 1-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs.
Grant Shepherd – Went 2-for-4 with a home run.
Nick Fakouri – Went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk..
DeShaun Cordova – Went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.

The victory pushes Arkansas-Monticello to 11-13 on the season as they prepare for games 2 and 3 in their GAC series with East Central.

Up Next
Arkansas-Monticello is back at Weevils Field on Saturday, Mar. 26 for a doubleheader with East Central University. The matches are set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
