Jackson Puts Up 20; Weevils Come Out with a Loss to the Crimson Storm


BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Men’s Basketball team traveled to Bethany, Oklahoma to face off against Southern Nazarene University on Thursday in their twelfth Great American Conference match-up of the 2022-23 season. The Boll Weevils had a rough night shooting, the unfortunately falling short to the Crimson Storm 73-37.

Isaac Jackson was the only Boll Weevil in double-digits for Arkansas-Monticello (5-13, 1-11 GAC) with 20 total points in his Thursday evening showing. Jackson shot 9-21 on field goals and 2-5 on shots beyond-the-arc with six rebounds and one assist.

Southern Nazarene University (15-3, 11-1 GAC) was led by Javon Jackson with 21 points.

SNU would start the quarter with a three pointer, followed by a Jackson jumper to make the score 2-3 SNU at the the 18:57 mark. The rest of the opening 20 minutes would go the Crimson Storm as they would go on a 29-13 run to finish the half. The Weevils struggled with shooting, going 6-23 from field goal, 3-8 from three point and 0-2 from the free throw line. The teams would head to the locker room with Weevils down 15-35 SNU at the half.

The Storm were the first to score in the second half with a layup to go up 37-15. UAM would respond with a layup from Cole Anderson but the Crimson Storm would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the half. The Weevils made made a valid attempt on the night, but costly shooting and loose ball handling proved to be the boys downfall. UAM went 10-25 on field goals, 2-6 on three points and 0-1 on free throws. The Storm would go 15-29 from field goal, 3-12 from three and 5-5 on free throw attempts. The match would come to a close with Southern Nazarene on top, 73-37.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 14 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils head to Shawnee, OK on Saturday, January 28 to take on Great American Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist University. The match will tip off at 3:00 p.m.
