To the residents of McGehee,
I feel the need to address the concerns that have been circulating around our community about my family’s health. To begin, I would like to state that my wife, Sallie, and I do not have COVID-19. However our son, Ross, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, June 16th, in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he lives and is currently quarantining.
Ross was in McGehee on Saturday, June 13th, to spend time with us. He was unaware that he had been exposed to COVID-19 or he would not have come home nor would I have allowed him to, he was also not experiencing any symptoms at that time.
As soon as Ross received his positive test results on the 16th, my wife and I began our self-quarantine as directed by the Arkansas Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
I am informing you all because this virus does not have any boundaries and can infect anyone. It has hit our home and I do not want it to hit anyone else’s home in our community. COVID-19 is a very contagious virus. Therefore, I am URGING you all to wear a mask in public settings and practice social distancing. Please do this to protect your fellow citizens.
These are very trying times, so let’s all treat one another with respect, let’s all support one another, and let’s all build a better, healthier community together.
Please pray for Ross’s road to recovery and for this virus not to spread to any other members of our family. I ask for you to respect our privacy at this time.
God bless,
Jeff Owyoung
Mayor of McGehee
