McGehee Ark Police Dept would like to start by saying thank you to the citizens of McGehee for your willingness to participate in this years Shop with a Cop Co-Ed Softball Tournament, this was our sole fundraiser and we raised enough money to be able to help over 20 children by way of school supplies and Christmas presents.
Yesterday was a special day, not only for the children chosen to “Shop with a Cop”, but to our officers as well. We spent the morning chatting over donuts and orange juice, Our Officers introduced themselves and let the kids ask them questions in an attempt to allow the children the opportunity to see that Police Officers aren’t someone to be afraid of and that we enjoy helping others. Some of the questions we got asked were typical like, “How long have you been a police officer?”, while others added comic relief such as when Officer Steven Plunkett was asked, “Are you old?”. Officer Hector Ramos was even complimented on his hair!
Next, the kids got to ride in the patrol cars with all the lights and sirens going all the way to Wal Mart. Once there, they began shopping for everything from video games to baby dolls, clothes, tablets, and televisions. The best part was seeing how thoughtful the children were of others. They did not only shop for themselves, but also chose gifts for their family members and one little girl even picked out something for her teacher! It’s an honor to be a part of something as special as Shop with a Cop.
McGehee Ark PD also want to say Thank You to all of our “elves”! A few of our dispatchers, school teachers, school administrators and wives wrapped every gift before we sent them home with the children.
It really does take a village to raise children and we are grateful to be a part of such a wonderful “village”.
