Hello! My name is Steve Young and I am a candidate for Lincoln County Sheriff. My wife Angela and I have been married for 11 years. I grew up in Star City before moving with family to Monticello late in my high school years.
After high school, I worked for the Arkansas Department of Correction until I was 21 and then started my law enforcement career that has spanned 35 years in total. During those years, I have served in all areas of law enforcement, including but not limited to patrol, criminal investigation, drug investigation and probation and parole. During my career I moved up through the command structure to the rank of Police Chief, where I served for 17 years. The last 8 years I had the honor of serving as Police Chief in my home town of Star City. Since retiring in 2016 I have worked part-time as Probation Officer for the 29th District Court.
I currently hold instructor certification in firearms, less lethal munitions, pepper spray and radar. I also hold a Professional Police Instructor certification.
My wife and I enjoy the outdoors when we have time off. We camp, fish, kayak and explore wild places every chance we get. I have been involved in martial arts since my early teenage years and Angela and I opened and operated a karate school until I retired in 2016.
If elected, I intend strengthening the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the other law enforcement agencies in Lincoln County, as well as the agencies around Lincoln County. Those that choose to prey on Lincoln County citizens are doing the same in other places and enhanced cooperation can only help all of us. I plan on working with the drug task force as well getting our own officers trained to work our own drug cases as much as possible. I also intend on supporting our school district, not only continuing the School Resource Officer program, but working with the school in obtaining any grants or government funds to help the school system and the SRO program. By working with our deputies, other agencies and the public, we will develop new ways to protect our people, property and quiet way of life here in Lincoln County. Thank you for your time and consideration.
