
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Women’s Basketball traveled to in-state, Great American Conference member Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. The Blossoms came out of their final regular season game of the 2022-23 season with an 81-62 loss to the Tigers.
Joi Montgomery led the way for Arkansas-Monticello (9-19, 6-16 GAC) with a 14 point afternoon. She shot for 6-10 on field goals, 2-5 on shots from beyond-the-arc and 2-2 on free throws throughout the match. She had one offensive and six defensive rebounds for a team-leading seven contributed on top of an assist.
Senior Aeryn Hawkins was the other Blossom double-digit points, posting 10 in her Saturday afternoon performance. She went 4-8 on field goals, 1-3 on three-pointers and 1-2 on free throws with four offensive and one defensive rebounds. Hawkins also contributed two assists and a block.
Ouachita Baptist (14-12, 11-11 GAC) was led by Laney Mears, Makayla Miller and Abbey Harrison with 19 points each.
The opening 10 minutes began with a Tiger layup, followed by a back-and-forth dog fight between the two teams. The score would be tied five different times throughout the quarter. Arkansas-Monticello would finish out the quarter going 5-14 on field goals and 1-4 on threes. The two teams would head into the second quarter with Ouachita Baptist up 17-15.
The second quarter would once again go the Tigers’ way as they outscored the Blossoms 19 points to 12. UAM shot for 36.36% of their field goals throughout the second ten minutes, while Ouachita Baptist shot for 38.46% in their performance. The teams would head to the locker rooms with OUA on top, 36-27.
Quarter three was once again won by the Ouachita Baptist team, with the Tigers outscoring the Blossoms 25 points to 17. The quarter would come to a close with the home team leading, 61-44.
The final quarter of the game came to a close with the Tigers outscoring the Blossoms, 20-18. The match would come to a close with a Blossom loss, falling to Ouachita Baptist, 81-62.
Arkansas-Monticello committed 18 turnovers in the entirety of the match.
