The UAM Volleyball Team lost to No. 22 Oklahoma Baptist University Today
SHAWNEE, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team returned to the court this evening for a road conference test against No. 22 Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Blossoms battled OBU all night, but the No. 22 ranked Bison were up to the challenge as they defeated UAM in straight sets.
UAM falls to 7-12 on the season and 2-6 in the Great American Conference, while OBU improves to 13-3 on the year and 6-2 in conference action.
GAME FLOW
A kill by Mikaela Brown put the visitors from Monticello up 6-2 in the early stages of the opening set. The Bison fought back into the set and took the lead, 16-13. The Blossoms tried to cut into the deficit but the Bison closed the frame on a 9-6 run to take the first set, 25-19.
In the second stanza, the hosts took an early 10-5 advantage over UAM. The Blossoms were able to cut the deficit to just three points, 13-10. However, the Bison won the most crucial rallies in the later stages of the second set to take a 2-0 advantage.
A block by Riley Krenek and Mia Smalls in the early stages of the third frame cut OBU’s lead to just three points at 11-8. The Bison, though, would regain the momentum and use an 8-2 run to extend their lead. UAM continued to battle OBU, but the Bison were able to close out the set, 25-18, to win the match.
KEY STATISTICS
– Katelyn Richbourg tallied a match-high 25 digs in the contest.
– Mia Smalls recorded 18 assists in the match.
– OBU bested UAM in kills, 44-23.

The UAM volleyball team returns to the hardwood tomorrow to square off against Southern Nazarene University. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. inside the Sawyer Center.
