
MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team took down Great American Conference foe Arkansas Tech University at home on Tuesday evening. The Blossoms played five sets in the match, opening the week with a huge win over the Golden Suns.
UAM closes out the day with a 7-8 total record and a 3-1 GAC record on the 2022 season after the conclusion of Tuesday.
The opening set in Steelman Field House seemed to really set the tone for the match. The Golden Suns may have been the first team on the board, but they certainly weren’t running away with the set. The score would tie six separate times before UAM was the first to put double digits on the scoreboard. As the set continued, a handful of consecutive points would begin to give Arkansas-Monticello a healthy lead. Unfortunately the set would eventually come to an end following a 7-0 run from ATU to give them a 26-24 set win over UAM.
In the second set Monticello was the first team to score, taking a quick 5-1 advantage over the visiting team. Consecutive kills from Jasmine Welton, Camryn McGough, and Holiday Ellis throughout the set would bring UAM to a strong 16-9 lead over the Golden Suns. Another 5-0 series from Monticello would bring them to a 22-13 lead, eventually tying the match at 1-1 after a 25-17 win on the set.
The third set was completely dominated by the visiting Arkansas Tech team. Arkansas-Monticello was unable to find a hole in the Golden Sun defense for a majority of the set. ATU would come out on top, 25-11.
Though the Blossoms were the first points of the fourth set, Arkansas Tech climbed their way to a 12-9 lead over UAM. The home team wasn’t finished though, tying the game at 12 and eventually taking back the lead after a 4-0 run with a score of 20-17. A late 4-0 series from the Golden Suns put them up 22-21. The Blossoms refused to lose, winning the set 26-24 to tie the series up 2-2.
Set five was a dominant display of Volleyball from UAM. Though Tech was able to put up eight points of their own, the Blossoms outscored them 15-8, taking the final set and winning the match 3-2.
Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 14 in the match. Holiday Ellis was a close second with 10 of her own.
Mia Smallscontributed 41 assists for UAM throughout the five sets.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams with 17 digs.
