DURANT, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball team leaves with a win in their Friday night showdown against Great American Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Blossoms played five sets in the match, defeating the Savage Storm, 3-2.
UAM closes out the day with a 10-14 season record and a 4-7 GAC record on the 2022 season after the conclusion of Friday.
The opening set began with UAM scoring the first point of the match. The home team was able to find points here and there, but UAM would hold control for majority of the set. A 5-0 run would give the Blossoms a decent size lead going into the second half of the set. UAM would hold onto the lead up to a score of 22-20. Unfortunately five straight points from Southeastern would give them a set one win.
Set two began with Arkasas-Monticello jumping out front early with four straight points thanks to a mixture of Mia Smalls aces and Jasmine Welton Kills. The Blossoms would hold onto that lead for almost the entirety of the set. The Storm would pull ahead briefly with a lte offensive push, but it would prove to be un helpful as UAM would take the set, 25-23, to tie the series.
The third set would prove to be an offensive win for the home team. Though UAM was able to string together multiple rallies, it was no use, as the Storm would once again come out with a 25-20 win.
Set number four was a complete flip of set three, as the Blossoms took control early and ran with it. Pulling ahead to a 14-5 lead, UAM sat with a comfortable lead going into the second half of the set. Even though Southeastern would bring the game close together with a late rally, UAM would score the final four points of the game to take a 25-20 set win of their own.
The final set was an all out fight between the two teams. UAM pulled ahead with a 3-1 lead, but would be matched by Southeastern, who took back an 8-6 lead. A 4-0 run, followed by a 3-0 run, would give the Blossoms a solid advantage. They would eventually take the fifth set, 15-11, and a 3-2 match win.
Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 21.
Mia Smalls contributed 39 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams who had 21 digs. Ariana Compean and Mia Smalls followed right behind with 16 and 10 of their own.
