UAM Comes Up Short Against Tigers 

The UAM Volleyball Team lost to East Central University this Afternoon 

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team returned to the court this afternoon for a conference test against East Central University. The Blossoms fought hard the entire match, but the Tigers proved to be too much today as ECU picked up the victory in four sets.

UAM falls to 7-11 on the season and 2-5 in the Great American Conference, while East Central University improves to 10-9 on the year and 6-1 in conference action.   

GAME FLOW
Trailing 11-5 in the early stages of the first set, UAM went on a 9-1 run to retake the lead at 14-12. The visitors from Oklahoma fought back, though, and tied the score at 16 apiece. Both sides exchanged points until a kill by Riley Krenek and an East Central attacking error gave the hosts the first set, 27-25.  

The second set was another back-and-forth affair as the score was knotted again at 16 apiece. The Tigers, though, were able to win the crucial points in this frame as ECU won the final six points of the set to tie the match, 1-1.

The teams continued to battle in the third set with the Tigers holding a 23-18 lead. UAM, though, fought back and won the next six rallies to take a one-point lead over the visitors, 24-23. However, the Tigers responded by winning the next three points to claim the third set.

Mikaela Brown’s kill in the fourth set gave UAM an early 10-9 advantage. Both sides would exchange slim leads the remainder of the frame. However, the Tigers won the most crucial points of the match to win the set, 25-23, and contest, 3-1.

Mikaela Brown tallied a career-high nine blocks in the contest.

Hailey Fike and Jamie Agnew each tallied a team-high 12 kills in the match.   
 
The Tigers bested UAM in kills, 59-44, and service aces, 13-4. 

UP NEXT
The UAM volleyball team travels to Oklahoma for a pair of conference contests on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16. Friday’smatch will feature the Blossoms against Oklahoma Baptist University at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday’s tilt will pit UAM against Southern Nazarene University at 1:00 p.m.
