University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball v. Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team used a strong defensive effort to topple Henderson State for the first road Great American Conference win of the season. The combination of 8 blocks and forcing 18 turnovers led the way for the Weevils to earn the 87-74 win over the Reddies.

The UAM offense paced the Weevils in the first half putting up 42 points at the break on 59.3 percent shooting from the field including three triples. The Weevils attacked the paint with force in the opening 20 minutes scoring 18 points in the painted area to build a 42-32 lead at the break.

Denzel McDuffey led the way for UAM in the first half with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field as well as a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. He also brought the intensity on the defensive end picking up three steals and adding one block.

The Weevils spread the scoring around in the second half with eight different players landing in the scoring column including four in double digits. DaJuan Jones was the leading scorer for UAM pouring in 20 points, knocking down all 13 of his attempts from the charity stripe.

McDuffey, Miles Daniels and Lemmie Howardjoined Jones with double digit scoring efforts of their own on the day. McDuffey also paced the Weevils on the glass pulling down eight rebounds.

UAM took advantage of 18 Henderson State turnovers for 18 fast break points and finish with a shooting percentage north of 50 percent. The Weevils also blocked eight shots to help put away the Reddies for the 87-74 victory.


The Weevils will be back on the court Thursday, January 21 when they travel to face Harding at 7:30 p.m.
