BOX SCORE

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team came out with a loss on Thursday when they hosted in-state Great American Conference foe Henderson State University. This was the Blossoms second time taking on the Reddies this year and their final match of the 2022 season. They played three sets in the match, falling to HSU, 3-0.

UAM closes out the season with a 10-19 total record and a 4-12 GAC record after the conclusion of Thursday.

Before the match, UAM honored it’s two senior volleyball players – Colleen Kilgore, who played at UAM in both 2021 and 2022, and Kenzi Thornton, a 2020-2022 member of the team.

Head Coach Katrina English had this to say following the conclusion of the match: “This year a new vision was presented, a vision that will result in competitive greatness; I appreciate each of my player’s efforts in pursuing this and will continue to acknowledge all the moments of greatness they displayed. The work is not done and the vision hasn’t changed, so the focus is now on continuation of the pursuit.”

The opening set began with UAM getting a point off a service error, but was quickly followed by three straight Reddie points. Henderson State began pulling ahead as the match continued, putting up a 5-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. The Blossoms followed up with their own five straight points to put themselves back in the game. Unfortunately the set would fall to the visiting team as the Reddie would take a 25-17 win.

The second set proved to be an even more back-and-forth match than the first as the score would be tied eight separate times throughout its entirety. As the score settled at a 22-21 Reddie lead, the visiting team would put up three straight points on the board to take a 25-21 set win over UAM.

Set three once again began with the home team taking the first point. Henderson State would grab a couple points of their own before falling behind 8-4. Five straight points from the Reddies would make it a 12-12 score as they continued into the second half of the game. The Blossoms climbed their way to a 21-16 lead, but unfortunately could not close out the set as they would eventually fall 25-23. Henderson State would win the match 3-0.

Jamie Agnew and Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with seven each.

Mia Smalls contributed 16 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Kenzi Thornton with 16 digs.
