Volleyball Sweeps Henderson State on the Road

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team left Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a SWEEP over Great American Conference Rival Henderson State University on Thursday. The Blossoms played three sets in the match, leaving the Reddies with a loss on their own court.

UAM closes out the day with a 6-8 total record and a 2-1 GAC record on the 2022 season after the conclusion of Thursday.

The opening set in the Duke Wells Center began with the home team scoring the first point of the match. The Blossoms responded with a quick 3-0 run of their own to retake the lead from the Reddies. As play continued, Henderson State would tie the game with UAM multiple times, even taking taking back the lead at 6-5. Two set sof 4-0 runs would bring that lead right back to Arkansas-Monticello as they sat on top, 14-8. HSU would do their best to climb their way back, but were unsuccessful as UAM would take the set with a final score of 25-20.

In the second set Monticello was the first team to score, grabbing two points before taking a 7-2 lead over the Reddies. HSU was quick to find their stride though, eventually find eight straight points to take back a 14-11 advantage over the Blossoms. Arkansas-Monticello pushed forward, tying the game at every point from 17 through 20. With the score tied at 24, the visiting Blossoms would score the final two points of the set, taking a 26-24 set win, and a 2-0 advantage on the match.

The third and final set of the match began the exact opposite of the first as UAM would score first, but be followed by three straight points from the Reddies. After tying the set at four, the Blossoms would take their first lead of the set at 6-4. Henderson State would follow with taking the lead again, but were unable to hold on as a powerful 8-1 run from Monticello would put the away team back in control of the match. Arkansas-Monticello would eventually take a win in the set, 25-20, and a 3-0 sweep in the match.

Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 13 in the match.

Mia Smallscontributed 30 assists for the Blossoms throughout the three sets.

Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams with 18 digs. Holiday Ellis and Mia Smalls followed up with 13 and 11 digs of their own.


UP NEXT
UAM returns to Steelman Field House on Tuesday, September 20 as they host Great American Conference foe Arkansas Tech University. The game will be Black Out Themed and is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
