Weevils Look to Keep the Trophy at Home as they Host Rival Southern Arkansas in Battle of the Timberlands

MONTICELLO, Ark. โ€“ Fresh off a hard loss last weekend, the University of Arkansas at Monticello football team is hungry for a win as they host GAC rival Southern Arkansas University on Saturday. The contest will be the final game of the 2022 season for the UAM Football team. The Boll Weevils look to keep the Battle of the Timberlands trophy at home, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.

Saturday’s home game will be Senior Day/Agriculture Day for the Weevil Football team, sponsored by BASF & Midsouth Seed. The University looks forward to honoring the five seniors on the team for their dedication and commitment to UAM.

Among the seniors are:

  • #7 – DeQuan Street – Defensive Back from Enid, Mississippi
  • #8 – Chris Blair – Defensive Line from Columbus, Mississippi
  • #9 – Charles Cameron – Defensive Line from Morton, Mississippi
  • #46 – James DeLee – Defensive Line from Central Louisiana
  • #71 – Hunter Grimes – Offensive Line from Prescott, Arkansas

Tickets
Tickets will be CASH ONLY purchases available for fans upon entrance to the UAM football stadium. UAM Faculty and Students get in FREE with a valid UAM ID.

Programs
Weevil Football Game Day programs will also be available for purchase at the gate for $5.

Restrooms
Restrooms for all fans are on the opposite side of the UAM Indoor Practice Facility as the field. There is also a brand-new porta-potty available behind the UAM student-section on the south side of the home stands.

Last Meeting 
Arkansas-Monticello put together a dominant 73-37 victory over Southern Arkansas University. Demilon Brown paced the UAM offense as he threw five touchdowns and rushed for 66 yards; pushing out an astonishing 529 total yards of offense. Chris Smith Jr. also ripped off some long runs as he rushed for a gain of 71 yards.


C.J. ParhamLaCedric Smith, and DeAndre Washington led the Weevil receiving core as Parham and Washington each caught six passes for 188 and 89 yards, and a combined 3 touchdowns. Smith caught five passes for 107 yards, including a touchdown.  
 
Defensively, Justin Legier and Kaytron Allen led the team, each with double digit tackles.

Angel Quiroga also sets a new UAM Football record with a 10/10 field goal record on the night. This also ties the GAC single game individual record for most field goals.

About Last Week
The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team played their tenth match-up of the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon. The Boll Weevils traveled to Ada, Oklahoma to take on out-of-state, Great American Conference member East Central University. UAM left with a 16-0 loss from the Tigers. The loss on the day dropped the Weevils to a 3-7 record on the season.

On offense, quarterback Edwin Kleinpeter went 11-for-25 on passing plays for 59 yards. Caleb Jacobs led UAM in receiving with three receptions for 16 total yards. Close behind was Ian Meche with a 13-yard reception. On the ground, Gary Ferman led the Boll Weevils with nine carries for 44 yards. Hayden Thomas was right behind with 35 yards of his own.

Defensively, Damarous White led the way for the Boll Weevils with 12 total tackles and six solo stops.
