Drew County Sheriff DEPUTY JOHN CARTER ATTENDS PRESTIGIOUS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PROGRAM FOCUSED ON PROTECTING DREW COUNTY’S CHILDREN

Specialized course about resources available to Drew County Sheriff’s Office teaches valuable strategies in protecting and saving children Monticello, Arkansas, June 2024 –  Deputy John Carter of the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, just returned from the prestigious Protect. Reduce. Prevent: Leadership Seminar on Missing and Exploited Children held at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in Alexandria, VA. Deputy John Carter traveled to attend this program, designed exclusively for those in a leadership role in law enforcement agencies, emergency communications centers, missing persons clearinghouses and persecutors offices on June 11-13, 2024, as a guest of NCMEC. Together with 45 other law enforcement and emergency communications leaders, missing person clearinghouse managers and prosecutor’s offices, Deputy Carter is now one of more than 6,500 public safety leaders who have completed this specialized training program. 22 The Leadership Seminar on Missing and Exploited Children Seminar provides attendees like Deputy Carter with in-depth information, policies and resources to handle cases of missing, abducted and exploited children. 

“This has been one of the most valuable experiences for me in my 22 years in public safety,” said Deputy Carter. “To have been selected was an honor, but to be able to bring this knowledge home and put it into practice, is a plus for Drew County because every child deserves a safe childhood.” 

Created in 1997 and funded by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), the PRPL training seminar discusses resources and planning needed to implement best practices for telecommunicators, field responders, investigators, and command staff to find missing children, reduce child exploitation and prevent child victimization. Once candidates are selected to attend, all travel and lodging expenses during training are covered by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children through a grant by OJJDP.
